Today's Practice

Today’s two hour meeting consisted of:
1.  Team coming up with their name.  They chose "The Robotrons".
2.  Brought some of the findings they’ve researched thus far on Food Contamination and shared out.  Was very impressed with their conversations on this.
3.  Team building exercise with hula hoop.  Team formed a circle and joined hands.  Their challenge was to get the hula hoop around all team members without breaking hands.
4.  Challenge of the day:  Build a touch sensor on your robot.  Have it touch the wall and reverse.
Our next meeting is a field trip to a restaurant where they will learn more about Food Contamination and as a team we plan on staying and having a nice lunch together. Will be letting you all know the days and times of this.
Here's some footage from today's meeting.  Listen closely to their conversations in their second video. They are trying to figure out why their robot will not reverse when the touch sensor is pressed.  This type of learning can be frustrating because the answers do not come easy and everyone wants their answers to be heard.  I will be working with the group on their social skills when problem solving in a team environment.

This is a great group of boys.  Looking forward to watching them grow.

In the meantime, Anthony is talking to McDonalds to see if we can tour the facility and/or speak with someone from there and Etienne is trying to see if we can take a tour of a water plant.  Why a water plant?  This came up in our discussion today.  Kiran was sharing how contaminated water can cause contamination in food.  Boys were very curious and asked to see this process.
